Standing on Sand

Jesus said…

Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord’ and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one that hears my words but does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.

Luke 6:46-49

Collin speaking now…

Many have heard Jesus’ words, but a small number of them actually put them into practice. This was me from age 14 to 24.

A large number of people still feel that other things born of this world are a better foundation than Jesus’ words. That could be money, family, a strong 401 K, friends, a good marriage, health, you fill in the blank. They may not admit this with their words but their actions, behaviors, and where they spend their time shows that practicing Jesus’ words is not their foundation.

In my spiritual walk, I have become less and less concerned about who are “Christians” and who are not. People are misconstruing what the word Christian really means and using the term loosely (I’m not a Muslim, or Jew, or Buddhist and I’ve been to church on Sunday, therefore I am a Christian).

What I’m more concerned for myself and for others is whether or not I am hearing His words AND putting Jesus’ words into practice – ALL OF HIS WORDS – and not just the words that are convenient for me? Do I see Jesus’s ways as better than my own?

Again, there is no closing thought to this 🙂
